I wonder if Children truly know the Love of a parent? I know that they know we love them, as my child has said a few times, "you’re my mom you have to!" But do we really have to? Or is it something that no matter what we try we could NOT, NOT do? When I look at my boys, no matter how mad I am at them for their lack of respect, their compliancy in the things I ask of them, their UTTER PIGGYness, their laziness, and their meism (The self-importance without any evidence that we (our world view) actually matters.) attitude. I am still consumed with love for them, like a fire in a dry forest. It is as if I could not breathe without them in the world, metaphorically (because they do smell bad, most of the time). I think that in the heart of a parent is a deep imbedded pulse that is directly linked to their children. If something happens to that child and they are hurt on the football field, they are in a car accident, they are late getting home, or something along those lines, and then we, as parents, are literally like a person with an oxygen supply that has just been turned off! The overwhelming panic that comes over us is actually terrifying, the fear that we are consumed with at those very moments is absolutely unbearable. Then the blessing of them standing up on the field, or of them getting out of the crashed car and our eyes meet, or the phone call that they says..."sorry mom, my phone was turned on silent", or the key in the door as they try to sneak in and it creaks, or just that moment that you realize they are ok! Then it is the like your standing on top of the highest mountain in Colorado and the air is at the perfect crisp temperature and you take this deep breath and instantly you feel renewed and refreshed! My heart aches for all the parents that are not able to breathe again! I know that what my sons do today, or actually what they doNOT today, will not be remembered in those moments. So I shall wake up each day and take a long deep breath of my sons, and cherish ever wonderful, horrible moment with them.
